Now i visited this place when i was working on board the Thomson Celebration, and we took a trip from the boat. It’s not just for the religious, I’m not religious, but i loved it. The whole history of the place is amazing and peoples beliefs are so strong. In school we used to get told the Christmas story of Jesus. donkeys and what not, and there travels and i loved listening to it. it wasn’t till i grew older i realised the religious story behind it, it just remained ‘not so serious’ in my eyes. We traveled quite a while to get to Jerusalem. When we arrived in the city, i noticed a barrier, what looked like a massive wall separating part of the city, this is the Israeli West bank barrier with separates the Palestinians and the Israelis, but i wont go into that. it just seems so sad, but maybe for a very good reason. I really enjoyed the shopping in the city, so many things you want! because even though some of you might not be religious, just buy something ;).
Jerusalem – The Facts: Located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.
Places of wonder in Jerusalem
The Wailing wall: The Western Wall or the Wailing Wall is located in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is a relatively small western segment of the wall surrounding the area called the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount is the holiest site in Judaism and is the place to which Jews turn during prayer.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre:, also called the Church of the Resurrection by Orthodox Christians, is a church within the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is a few steps away from the Muristan. This is a beautiful church, but its crazy ! in a good way, people rubbing all there belongings on a stone that Jesus’s body was on. The thing that amazed me the most, was that a lot of the locals/people thought they were Jesus, seriously, which is so weird but fascinating, its considered a disease in some cultures.
There is a lot more places to explore and we took a tour i think around the most important places, i really recommend a visit, its great to experience the culture.
